La thématique : Angoulême / la bande dessinée comme enjeu de pouvoir Le salon d'Angoulême est la queue de comète d'une longue campagne de valorisation de la bande dessinée en Europe francophone, amorcée en 1962 avec le Club des Bandes Dessinées. Le Club était une association Loi de 1901 née des lecteurs de la revue FICTION, composée de nombreuses sommités comme Alain Resnais, Francis Lacassin ou Evelyne Sullerot et ayant des antennes en Suisse, Belgique et Espagne. Par "valorisation" , il faut entendre la dimension immatérielle et matérielle, culturelle et commerciale, de ce moyen d'expression artistique. En janvier 1974, la bande dessinée est déjà reconnue comme un art à part entière, le 9ème, et elle représente un important marché dans le domaine du livre. Le salon d'Angoulême émerge en fin de ce long cycle. Malgré l'adjectif "international" affiché par les organisateurs dès sa naissance, il s'agit en réalité d'une version francophone du Salon italien de Lucca, qui préexistait depuis déjà huit années et dont les organisateurs avaient servi de parrains. C'est aussi la dernière action promotionnelle de la SOCERLID du Parisien d'origine corse Claude Moliterni. Cette société avait doublé puis enterré le Club des Bandes Dessinées. Moliterni, en charge de la Convention de (bande dessinée de) Paris depuis 1969, livre son carnet d'adresses à l'équipe du nouvel événement réunie autour de l'attaché culturel d'Angoulême, sans regret car il a perdu toute apparence de neutralité en vendant sa revue PHENIX à l'éditeur Georges Dargaud et en devenant son salarié. - "Est-ce que le terme de "Salon" utilisé pour la bande dessinée ne fait pas un peu trop "installé" ? ... Dans quel esprit avez-vous organisé ce salon ? " - "Le nom ? ! Vous savez, c'est toujours un peu pareil quand il s'agit de désigner quelque chose... Convention était déjà pris (nda : la Convention de Paris), Congrès et tout... on a pris Salon parce que ça ne veut rien dire et c'est parfait ! Ce n'était pas du tout l'objectif de départ, mais ce sont les faits, certains l'ont compris à leurs dépends. . ". Si une équipe de bénévoles, chapeautée par Francis Groux, a bien attiré cet événement public au sein de sa ville, le terreau politique local était propice. La cité souffrait en effet d'un long complexe d'enclavement : isolée dans les terres loin du littoral, coincée sur son plateau entre ses murailles, sans autoroute et hors des circuits touristiques. Les élus d'Angoulême n'ont eu de cesse, année après année, de revendiquer une place à l'échelle nationale. Ils vont s'agripper à la campagne de régionalisation qui, à la fin des années soixante, marque la fin du gaullisme : Angoulême sera nommée "ville moyenne pilote" . C'est dans le cadre de cette dynamique que s'inscrit la campagne "Angoulême Art Vivant" dont sont issus les rencontres liées à la bd en 1972. Angoulême bénéficiera ensuite de la montée en puissance d'un natif du cru : le Charentais François Mitterrand... Un demi-siècle plus tard, comme toutes les institutions tentées de maîtriser le récit de leur propre histoire, le Salon devenu Festival international de la bande dessinée (FIBD) d'Angoulême a entrepris de réécrire son narratif, son "storytelling" , pour être plus conforme à la légende qu'il a entrepris d'édifier. Maintes fois retouchée, aménagée, tronquée, embellie, caviardée, l'histoire "officielle" de cet événement tel qu'il cherche à se raconter de la main même de ses promoteurs, le FIBD et son opérateur privé 9eArt+, est pleine d'oublis, de trous, de vides, d'escamotages et d'absences. Et il ne faut guère compter sur les médiateurs et les médias, majoritairement complaisants, amnésiques, approximatifs ou en affaires avec la manifestation - quand ils ne sont pas d'une servilité qui elle aussi interroge - pour poser les questions qui gênent, ou qui fâchent. Pourtant, le fil rouge qui traverse toute l'histoire de l'événement est éminemment politique - au sens le plus large et le plus générique du terme. Car ce qui se noue à Angoulême depuis un demi-siècle, autour d'un thème en apparence dénué d'enjeux d'envergure, c'est une intense, féroce et perpétuelle comédie du pouvoir - toutes les formes de pouvoir. Les personnes intéressées par la bande dessinée, donc par les politiques éditoriales des maisons d'édition, ne peuvent faire l'impasse sur ces cycles de rencontres entre amateurs et professionnels. Pour illustrer les propos de cet ouvrage, les auteurs iront puiser dans la riche iconographie de l'artiste Alain Saint-Ogan (1895-1974). Un homme qui a longtemps symbolisé "le dessin français" et qui ne s'est jamais reconnu comme un auteur de bande dessinée mais bien comme un homme de presse. Il a oeuvré dans la presse pour enfants et pour adultes. Son personnage de manchot, Alfred, l'ami de gamins Zig et Puce, a longtemps personnifié les prix délivrés aux salons de bande dessinée d'Angoulême.

(Texte provisoire) Thomas Münzer constitue le second volume de la trilogie " La passion des Anabaptistes ". Il aborde la théorisation de la révolution et conte le second soulèvement populaire du début du xvie siècle dans le Saint-Empire romain germanique. Pendant les guerres paysannes, le jeune Martin Luther prit la défense des paysans et des miséreux et prêcha des idées plutôt guerrières, suggérant par exemple de " se laver les mains avec le sang des évêques et des cardinaux de Rome ". La jeune secte anabaptiste, à cette même époque (1517), adhéra pleinement au discours de Luther et diffusa avec lui une haine énergique de Rome. Apparut ensuite, vers les années 1520, un certain Thomas Münzer, jeune théologien atypique qui se fit rapidement connaître comme le nouvel héros de la révolte paysanne et mit en place une véritable ligue secrète et séditieuse, ayant pour objectif de déstabiliser le pouvoir en place. Ses discours étaient plus durs encore que ceux prêchés par Luther, si bien que ce dernier fit marche arrière assez rapidement et opta pour la diplomatie, préférant les intrigues et les compromissions avec les instances au pouvoir. Dérouté par ce Münzer venu de nulle part, Luther s'éloigna de plus en plus des vues du champion des anabaptistes et finit par lui jeter publiquement l'anathème. Né en 1968, David Vandermeulen s'est d'abord fait connaître en 1997 en fondant le mythique café-concert " Le Galactica ", point de rendez-vous prisé de la scène underground bruxelloise. C'est à la même époque qu'il s'intéresse à la bande dessinée en montant sa propre structure éditoriale, Clandestine Books. Il y publie ses premiers albums puis rejoint 6 Pieds sous Terre et Les Requins Marteaux. Il crée Monsieur Vandermeulen, un avatar digne de l'Oncle Paul, auteur de nombreuses vulgarisations littéraires, à l'instar de son essai remarqué sur l'ontologie de Jean-Claude Van Damme. En 2005, il surprend ses lecteurs en prouvant qu'il est aussi capable de rompre avec l'humour qui le caractérisait jusqu'alors. Sa série Fritz Haber, nommée deux fois dans la catégorie album de l'année puis meilleure série au FIBD d'Angoulême, reçoit en 2005 le Prix de la BD historique de Blois et s'impose comme un titre incontournable en ce domaine. En parallèle, il développe avec son complice Daniel Casanave l'ambitieuse série Romantica aux Editions Le Lombard, une collection de grandes biographies d'auteurs romantiques du XIXe siècle. Toujours au Lombard, il a publié Ric Remix, un étonnant détournement de Ric Hochet. David Vandermeulen est également un contributeur régulier de La Revue Dessinée et de Fluide Glacial. Laurent Sautet est né en 1971 à Lyon et vit actuellement à Paris. Sous le pseudonyme Ambre, il crée sa propre revue Hard Luck en 1991 et la maison d'édition Terre Noire en 1997. Son premier ouvrage de bande dessinée paraît en 1996 et il publie de nombreux récits dans les revues Le cheval sans tête, Jade... et participe au collectif Comix 2000 de l'Association. Il adapte " Une trop bruyante solitude " de Bohumil Hrabal en 2003 avec Lionel Tran et le " Faust " de Goethe en 2006 avec David Vandermeulen. Ambre expose régulièrement ses peintures dans des galeries et des festivals internationaux. Il est par ailleurs Bibliothécaire à la Bibliothèque nationale de France. Pour le projet " La Passion des Anabaptistes ", il décide d'étudier la gravure allemande de la Renaissance et radicalise son approche de la bande dessinée.

Queen Vispa and King Dungammei are the beloved rulers of their respective kingdoms. The two territories live in harmony, sharing a temple that crosses their mutual border, but they pray to different gods and have little in common outside of geography. The monarchs seem an unlikely pair, but when each violates the rules of the temple - one by entering the temple as a woman, and the other by praying to the other kingdom's god - both find themselves abandoned by their people, deciding soon after to declare the approval and presence of both gods in their hearts, as well as their love for each other. The King and Queen's subjects also abandon the shared temple, leaving it to the disobedient pair and building separate temples in their own territories. The monarchs' happy life together is, however, short-lived, as Queen Vispa dies upon giving birth to their child Delarai. The King is urged to repent and return to his kingdom. He complies, leaving princess Delarai with Magi, a nurse from a remote village, to raise her. Delarai rows up in near isolation, far from other people, spending most of her time among flowers and animals of the beautiful temple garden. Meanwhile, battles rage between the two kingdoms following the King's return. Delaware, a son begotten to the King and his next wife, gets badly wounded some years later in an attempt to stop the fighting. On his deathbed, the Prince insists on being taken to the forbidden temple to be buried there. The King, though ill himself, agrees to fulfill his son's dying wish. It is there where Delarai, having become quite an expert at herbal remedies, comes to their aid, preparing a special potion while praying to the temple's two gods in her nurse Magi's native language. As Delarai completes the life-saving act of curing the Prince, she tries to call for Magi, but the word that leaves her lips is "magic". Those who witness the event soon spread the word, and Delarai becomes recognized across both kingdoms as the creator of magic. The King, however, succumbs to old age, imparting his last kernel of wisdom unto his daughter : the two temple gods are one and the same. With this knowledge and their newfound inner strength, Delarai and Delaware unify the two kingdoms, and live happily ever after.

Civil Society versus State In Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Vietnamese Tradition Proceeding of the American-European Symposium, Paris, May 29-31 The study of the social nature of man has been given a new dimension by work like those of Jürgen Habermas that no longer simply analyze the relations between the individual and the group, but that take into account both the effects the members of a group acting freely and spontaneously among themselves have upon the organization of a community and the constraints the very structure of the group exert upon itself, and these two aspects of the problem are now seen as interacting dialectically. How is a civil society created in the context of state rule ? How do the private and public sectors intrude upon one another ? What cultural and ideological conditions are necessary to create a given form of civil society ? A colloquium of specialists on East Asia who gathered together in Paris in 1991 tried to find at least partial answers to these questions as they concern the history of societies in China, Japan, Korea and Vietnam. This collection of the papers presented - in English and French - gives us a striking panoramic view of some of the most characteristic forms of the social systems of ancient, medieval and China, of feudal and post-feudal Japan, of traditional Korea and of Vietnam in the seventeenth century. A ces questions, un colloque de spécialistes de l'Asie orientale, réuni à Paris en 1991, a voulu apporter des éléments de réponse relativement à l'histoire des sociétés chinoise, japonaise, coréenne et vietnamienne. Le recueil des communications présentées - en anglais et en français - met en perspective certaines des formes les plus caractéristiques du système social de la Chine ancienne, médiévale et moderne, du Japon féodal et postféodal, de la Corée traditionnelle, du Viet-nam du XVIIè siècle.

In the modern world, computer systems are playing a greater and greater part in everyday life. From office work, to entertainment, to providing information, the personal computer is quickly becoming a more integral part of the home. However, most PC users have no idea how most of the parts which make up their computer work internally. I am one of those who find that the framework provided by the school curriculum in the United Kingdom is of great assistance in planning lessons and learning plans but the curriculum does not plan out the work for us. We therefore need to invest a lot of time and effort into developing schemes of work that will suit the people we are going to teach. For me, it is a fantastic opportunity to employ our imagination and creativity to make lessons useful and interesting for children of different abilities. It is why I wrote this book. This book is a foundation course for Advanced Computer Studies and designed as a blueprint to teach users with a basic knowledge of computer science. Computer science is a subject that combines the use of technology which is ICT (Information Communication Technology) and the creation of technology. To use ICT (the subject about how to use technology to communicate information) more effectively, we need to know how technology works. Computing or computer science will create a generation of young people able to work at the forefront of technology change. It is the umbrella term for the subject that comprises 3 elements : computer science, information technology and digital literacy. It is helpful to think of these as the foundations, applications and implications of digital technology. The new focus on computer science will provides a well-defined and rigorous academic discipline and a unique lens through which pupils can understand the world. Children must therefore be taught computing if they are to be ready for tomorrow technology challenges. Our ingenuity to invent new means of communicating with each other, our very human compulsion to communicate have driven the technological innovations of the past two centuries however still a lot remain to be done with the arrival of quantum computing. A more rigorous approach to computer science teaching will help compete across the full spectrum of digital industries. This can only be achieved by equipping ourselves with the foundation skills, knowledge and understanding of computing do the necessity to introduce "computational thinking" at school via the new national curriculum (programmes of study and targets), the 2014 national curriculum that introduces computing which will replace ICT.
