After The Last Ship
After the Last Ship illustrates the author's own history, as well as its connection to the history of other women and children who left India and made the journey across the Kala Pani, the Indian Ocean, and lived as migrants in other countries. In this book the author brings greater understanding of how subjectivities are shaped through embodied experiences of ‘mixed race'. She bears witness to the oppressive policies of the fascist government in Portugal in the 1960's and 1970's and the effects of displacement and exile, by reconstructing her own passage from India to Mozambique and finally to Australia. Further, the author shows the devastation that labels such as ‘half-caste', ‘canecos' and ‘monhe' can cause, when they eat at your flesh, your being, and your body. She sheds light on how identity and culture can serve as vehicles of empowerment, how experiences of belonging can germinate and take root post-diaspora.

The target is a German freight train - and its locomotive. Aboard the first Spitfire, Sergeant Ferguson is aligning his gun sights on the target. It is 02 : 30 p. m. This will be his very last flight... HARASSING THE OCCUPYING FORCES TO PREPARE THE INVASION The RAF and RCAF had been flying hundreds of similar sorties over France for months, in order to weaken the German forces, particularly the Luftwaffe. The pilots of No. 401 Squadron were among those who took part in this patient work, made up of constant patrols and attacks. Among the 63 men mentioned in this book, 25 were killed in action between 1942 and 1944. A CRASH THAT AWOKE THE SPIRIT OF RESISTANCE Touched by William Ferguson's sacrifice, some French citizens decided to bury the young Canadian flier with dignity, honour and respect. The Germans took this as a provocation. A few weeks later, the Sipo-SD (the "Gestapo") arrested a dozen of them. Mira suffered imprisonment in a haunted palace and then exile for her beliefs. Even her friends were persecuted because of her uncompromising love for Lord Krishna. Eventually Bhojan came to understand his wife's piety. The story is told in the form of a musical play where the love story is interwoven with delightful songs and dances. The character of Mira is one to win the hearts of all who read of her. Her gentle devotion and steadfast belief are an inspiration to everyone. Les cowboys chantants, les singing cowboys, ont marqué - des années 30 aux années 50 - aussi bien le monde de la chanson westernienne que celui du cinéma. Les thèmes des films dans lesquels apparaissaient les singing cowboys étaient souvent les mêmes : défense d'un ranch ou d'une petite ville contre des bandits, protection de la veuve et de l'orphelin, intervention du beau cowboy qui, à la fin de l'épisode, partait dans le soleil couchant avec - ou sans - la jolie jeune fille. Activation Policies for the Unemployed, the Right to Work and the Duty to Work
Since the 1990s and the 2000s, Western social protection systems have experienced a turn towards activation. This turn consists of the multiplication of measures aimed at bringing those who are unemployed closer to participation in the labour market. These measures often induce a strengthening of the conditions that must be met in order to receive social benefits. It is in this well known context that the authors gathered in this book decided to take a closer look at the relationship between activation policies for the unemployed and the right and the duty to work. If activation measures are likely to increase transitions towards the labour market, we can also make the assumption that they may, particularly when they are marked with the seal of coercion, hinder or dramatically reduce the right to freely chosen work. In such circumstances, the realisation of the "right to work", which is often stated to be the aim of those who promote activation, tends in practice to be reduced to an increasing pressure being exerted on the unemployed. In this case, isn't it actually the duty to work that is particularly reinforced ? After an historical and philosophical perspective on the issue, this assumption is confronted with the developments observed in the United States and in France, and then with the guidelines laid down in international human rights instruments. What follows is a discussion of two alternatives to the dominant activation model : the basic income guarantee and the employment guarantee.

Le who's who du rugby à XIII
Ce livre liste tous ceux qui ont fait le rugby, en particulier le XIII, qui lui, est né en 1895, quand les joueurs du Nord de l'Angleterre firent récession, demandant à être rémunérés pour permettre une meilleure préparation. A la même époque, le football qui se jouait à XIII, a réussi à réduire le nombre à 11 joueurs sans pour autant créer une scission. En 1906, les rugbymen dissidents et leurs dirigeants décidèrent de se fédérer et créèrent la "football rugby league" ramenant ainsi le nombre de joueurs de XV à XIII. Le rugby à XIII venait de naître. Dans ce livre se succèdent des références historiques, les rapports avec les puissances publiques et surtout l'histoire de cette formidable aventure née en 1934, quand Jean Galia implanta le rugby à XIII en France. Notre équipe nationale fut championne d'Europe en 1939 mais en 1940, le rugby à XIII fut interdit et tous les joueurs de XIII durent se convertir au XV pendant la guerre. En 1944, ils durent s'appeler "jeu à XIII" pour continuer à exister et l'appellation de "rugby" ne sera rendue à ce sport qu'en 1993.

Sébastien Dosda est né à Créhange, en Moselle-est, en 1975. Durant une jeunesse dorée, marquée par l'amour profond de ses proches qui l'encouragèrent dans divers do-maines, il se consacra ses études primaires et secondaires à Creutzwald. Passionné de football, il remporta de beaux succès. Dans cette ville, il résida jusqu'à ses 27 ans puis déménagea sur Toulouse jusqu'en 2005 où il fit un retour de deux ans pour des études de diététique. En 2007, il retourna sur Toulouse pour revenir finalement dans sa contrée en 2014. Ladite maladie ou les crises spirituelles intervinrent dès l'âge de 18 ans jusqu'à ses 32 ans, à quatre reprises, sur de longues périodes. Durant ses troubles de santé se développèrent un penchant artistique pour l'écriture et une sensibilité exacerbée à la voyance et au magnétisme. Toujours célibataire au-jourd'hui, il exerce le métier de voyant-magnétiseur.

In this exhibition, the Museum Plantin-Moretus shows the 80 most beautiful old master drawings from Flemish collections. From scribble to cartoon : Drawings from Bruegel to Rubens in Flemish Collections (Van Crabbelinge tot Carton : Tekeningen van Bruegel tot Rubens in Vlaamse Collecties) gives an astonishing and representative overview of the art of drawing in our regions in the 16th and 17th centuries. In 2020, the Flemish government placed a large number of old master drawings on their masterpiece list, including rare artworks by Frans Floris, Peter Paul Rubens, Anthony Van Dyck, Jacques Jordaens, Otto van Veen, Jan Fijt and many more. The majority of these masterpieces are kept in the Museum Plantin-Moretus. The museum takes the official recognition of these drawings as masterpieces as an opportunity to put its unique collection in the spotlight. The exhibition presents an overview that illustrates who, why and how people drew in our regions in the 16th and 17th centuries

WHY SEX MATTERS. A Darwinian Look at Human Behavior
Why are men, like other primate usually the aggressors and risk takers? Why do women typically have fewer sexual partners? Why is killing infants routine in some cultures, but forbidden in others? Why is incest everywhere taboo? Bobbi Low ranges from ancient Rome to modern America, from the Amazon to the Arctic, and from single-celled organisms to international politics to show that these and many other questions about human behavior largely come down to evolution and sex. More precisely, as she shows in this uniquely comprehensive and accessible survey of behavioral and evolutionary ecology, they come down to the basic principle that all organisms evolved to maximize their reproductive success and seek resources to do so.
Low begins by reviewing the fundamental arguments and assumptions of behavioral ecology: selfish genes, conflicts of interest, and the tendency for sexes to reproduce through different behaviors. She explains why in primate species-from chimpanzees and apes to humans-males seek to spread their genes by devoting extraordinary efforts to finding mates, while females find it profitable to expend more effort on parenting. Toujours alité à l'hôpital, Ebihara a demandé à Fable de s'informer du conflit imminent entre Kojima et Sunagawa. Mais il reçoit une visite bien menaçante suite à cette requête... A l'autre bout de la ville, la rencontre entre Kojima et Sunagawa pour décider de "l'utilisation" qui sera faite de Misaki au sein de leur business doit avoir lieu dans un bâtiment industriel fermé pour la nuit. Sunagawa a embauché un tueur professionnel pour se débarrasser de Kojima qui aurait abattu un de ses hommes. Cependant, Kojima aussi est sur ses gardes et vient au rendez-vous accompagné de trois sous-fifres. Mais personne ne se doute que Fable va venir troubler les festivités pour sortir la pauvre Misaki de ce bourbier...

Après avoir sauvé Misaki des griffes de Kojima, Fable ramène celui-ci à Ebihara qui doit décider de son sort, suite à cet affront fait au clan. Sunagawa, quant à lui, n'en finit plus de se questionner sur l'identité de ce tueur à gages sorti de nulle part et ayant fait capoter toute sa stratégie de vengeance en un claquement de doigts... Après tous ces événements, Fable décide de partir quelques jours en forêt afin de se décrasser et de se ressourcer. Il est accompagné du jeune Kuro, du clan Maguro, qui s'est mis en tête de devenir lui aussi tueur professionnel et qui a insisté pour être de la partie. Mais ce dernier ne se doute pas de ce qui l'attend durant ces quelques jours en pleine nature...

L'entrée en jeu d'Utsubo et de son équipe du bureau municipal de renseignements commerciaux de Tahei vient semer le trouble dans la ville de Satô et dans les locaux d'Octopus. Sous des aspects de gendre idéal, le chef Utsubo est en réalité un redoutable énergumène prêt à tout pour se faire de l'argent. C'est le fragile Kainuma qui fera d'abord les frais de l'avidité sans borne de ce rapace sanguinaire. Du côté du clan Maguro, Sunagawa se félicite d'être débarrassé du duo de tueurs qu'il avait engagé. Toujours avide de plus de pouvoir au sein du clan, il décide cependant de freiner son ascension, de laisser les choses évoluer, et de remettre à plus tard ses investigations au sujet de "Fable"...

Le face-à-face entre Sunagawa et Kojima a lieu dans une aciérie afin de mettre à plat leurs différends au sujet du business de prostitution que Kojima veut monter. Ce dernier amène donc Misaki en guise de "cadeau" à Sunagawa. Lequel, ne supportant pas ce potentiel concurrent, veut surtout en profiter pour faire éliminer l'ex-taulard. De son côté, après avoir bricolé une arme à feu dans son garage, Fable s'introduit facilement dans le bâtiment. Grâce à son expérience, il arrive à neutraliser tous les sbires des deux malfrats et à exfiltrer Misaki en état de choc... Parallèlement, Ebihara reçoit la visite à l'hôpital du patron de Fable. Ce dernier est venu le prévenir qu'il ne devra plus jamais mêler Satô à ses affaires sous peine de finir rapidement six pieds sous terre...

Pendant des années, Herbert Maier s'est rendu dans les lieux et les régions les plus divers, au Pakistan, en Inde, au Népal, au Mexique, au Guatemala, aux USA, en Israël, en Iran et dans les zones tribales d'Afrique occidentale. Sa bibliothèque visuelle est étroitement liée à ces voyages. Les rencontres avec d'autres et l'enregistrement de leurs témoignages artistiques et culturels dans sa mémoire d'images imaginaires sont devenus aussi importants pour lui que la confrontation à l'histoire de l'art occidentale. Herbert Maier travaille à cette encyclopédie depuis 2009, elle renferme aujourd'hui plus de 500 aquarelles. Car seule l'aquarelle, la transparence et la légèreté qui lui sont propres, permet de réaliser un aussi grand nombre d'images en si peu de temps.
