After The Last Ship
After the Last Ship illustrates the author's own history, as well as its connection to the history of other women and children who left India and made the journey across the Kala Pani, the Indian Ocean, and lived as migrants in other countries. In this book the author brings greater understanding of how subjectivities are shaped through embodied experiences of ‘mixed race'. She bears witness to the oppressive policies of the fascist government in Portugal in the 1960's and 1970's and the effects of displacement and exile, by reconstructing her own passage from India to Mozambique and finally to Australia. Further, the author shows the devastation that labels such as ‘half-caste', ‘canecos' and ‘monhe' can cause, when they eat at your flesh, your being, and your body. She sheds light on how identity and culture can serve as vehicles of empowerment, how experiences of belonging can germinate and take root post-diaspora.

Ethnicity, Children & Habitus
This book is concerned with the ethnic experience of Chinese secondary school children living in Northern Ireland. The author analyses two sub-groups of Chinese children : those with parents coming from Hong Kong and those with parents coming from Mainland China. The purpose of this study is to investigate how these apparently ‘Chinese' children feel about their ethnic identity. By drawing upon Bourdieu's concepts of habitus, and a cultural studies' approach to ethnicity and identity in general, the author examines the characteristics of cultural specificity and heterogeneity. Methodologically, the author has chosen an ethnographic approach. Prominence is given to the definitions, perspectives and voices of the children themselves by conducting open-ended, indepth and informal interviews and by doing so on an extended basis. The whole process continued for two and half years. Close attention was paid to the children's immediate circumstances, their parental occupations and their general social and cultural conditions.

Developmental Impact of Technology Transfer in Nigeria is a major work of its kind which examines the roots of Nigeria's inability to assimilate and institutionalise imported foreign technologies. The author takes unconventional view and fathoms the complex issues encountered in international technology transfer in their various ramifications. The author argues that the traditional theories might have explained away the complex issues involved and have treated the major factors essential for the positive developmental impact of the transferred technology on the receiving society with benign neglect. The empirical results from this work provide a new understanding of the problems which obstruct the process of sucessful technology transfer to the developing countries.

Ensemble pour les droits des femmes !
La conférence en ligne organisée par l'Unesco et l'AUF le 8 mars 2021 a été l'occasion de porter un regard sur l'engagement pour les droits des femmes aujourd'hui et de formuler des propositions de solutions. Mariage forcé, inégalité des salaires, accession difficile à l'éducation, violences conjugales, agressions sexuelles... , partout sur la planète, en dépit des acquis récents, les femmes subissent au quotidien discriminations et atteintes à leur intégrité physique et morale. Un état des lieux alarmant encore aggravé par la crise du Covid-19, qui va faire basculer dans l'extrême pauvreté 47 millions de femmes et de filles. Dix-neuf personnalités engagées dans la lutte pour les droits des femmes - dont la journaliste Laure Adler, l'activiste et dramaturge Eve Ensler et le neuropsychiatre Boris Cyrulnik - témoignent, ici, de leur action, de leurs réflexions, et ouvrent des pistes pour que l'égalité entre hommes et femmes devienne enfin une réalité. Car défendre ensemble, tous sexes et générations confondus, le droit des femmes à disposer de leur corps, de leurs rêves, de leur vie, c'est créer une société meilleure pour tous.

The Phenomenology of Freedom in Kleist's Die Familie Schroffenstein</I> and "Penthesilea</I>"
This study describes from an ontological perspective the foundation of freedom in two of Kleist's dramas. The novelty of this approach lies in the author's departure from the ontic considerations of freedom characterizing traditional Kleist scholarship. The present study advocates a de-construction of Kleist's concept of freedom back to its ontological basis : freedom is a cooperative enterprise of man and his situation. It is the author's contention that freedom in Kleist's works, rather than being defined by "a priori" categories, ensues primarily from the situation wherein it is being enacted. Man's relation to this situation is explored in a universal (Schroffenstein) and particular (Penthesilea) environment.

Corporatism and the Stability of Capitalist Democracies
This dissertation treats a problem which originally stems from Marxist political economic thinking : why do representatives of the working-class compromise with representatives of the capitalist class on major socio-economic topics on a national level, and what do such compromises look like ? The author establishes the claim that macro-economic compromises between organized classes are both likely to result and unstable in their nature. It is shown how the state may act as an actor supporting the establishment of an institutionalized class compromise and how it may try to prevent the breakdown of it. After elaborating these claims in a dynamic macro-economic model, the author describes developments of class compromises in post World War II Sweden, Austria and the Netherlands to illustrate the theory.

Conjugal Love and the Ends of Marriage
The importance of conjugal love in marriage, allegedly overlooked by pre-conciliar marriage doctrine, is strikingly emphasized by present-day Catholic Church documents. The stable incorporation of conjugal love into Catholic marriage doctrine finds its roots in the Second Vatican Council's Pastoral Constitution of the Church in the modern world, Gaudium et spes. During the elaboration of the chapter on marriage and the family in Gaudium et spes, it was observed that its third conciliar draft, textus recognitus, contained ideas which are similar to what Dietrich von Hildebrand and Herbert Doms had pronounced during the 1930s. Some theologians and canonists, in fact, have opined that these authors paved the way for the personalist treatment of marriage in this century by underlining the importance of conjugal love. Others have even asserted that the Gaudium et spes doctrine on marriage is the confirmation of Doms's thought. What accounts for the shift towards an emphasis on conjugal love in the theological presentation of marriage ? What did these two authors understand by it and how did they articulate the matrimonial ends ? How were their ideas received by the theologians and by the Church ? To what extent and in what ways are their ideas reflected in the conciliar document ? This book probes these questions which are fundamental to understanding the evolution of the Catholic doctrinal presentation of marriage.

Les auteurs sont spécialistes de différentes disciplines (sociologie, anthropologie, histoire, études linguistiques et littéraires) et portent une attention particulière à la langue de leurs corpus, depuis des textes fondateurs, Coran ou hadiths, en passant par les sources classiques de l'historien (les textes des auteurs du patrimoine classique arabe), jusqu'aux productions qui nous sont contemporaines, des textes militants aux oeuvres de fiction, tous témoignant des représentations que l'on tente d'interpréter ici. -- The studies published in this book focus on representations and symbolics of war and peace in the Arab world over the long term.
