L'éditeur communiste italien Giangiacomo Feltrinelli apprend la bonne nouvelle. Il obtient les droits de traduction de l'auteur lui-même. Du jamais vu en U. R. S. S. depuis 1930. L'université de Moscou et les instituts scientifiques entrouvent leurs portes aux étudiants et chercheurs étrangers. Hélène Peltier-Zamoyska et Jacqueline de Proyart, envoyées en mission à Moscou à l'automne 1956, font tour à tour la connaissance de Boris Pasternak et emportent chacune clandestinement le roman qui vient d'être frappé d'interdiction. La grande aventure de l'édition du Docteur Jivago en Occident commence. Les Lettres à mes amies françaises retracent cette histoire mouvementée et jettent une lumière crue sur la lutte menée par Boris Pasternak, "un contre tous" , pour que son roman soit publié en russe où que ce soit et "rende son peuple à son histoire" . Günter Wagner, born 5 July 1928 in Jüterborg, Germany, studied theology in Hamburg and in Zurich, where he received a doctoral degree in 1960. From 1956 till 1958 he was employed as research assistant and representative of the German Free Churches at the Ecumenical Centre of the "Arbeitsgemeinschaft Christlicher Kirchen" in Frankfurt. In 1958 he was appointed as instructor for New Testament Studies at the Baptist Theological Seminary, Rüschlikon, continuing as associate professor (1961), and professor of New Testament Studies (1965) for 35 years until his retirement in 1993. Günter Wagner is a member of numerous ecumenical committees and societies for biblical studies, and has taught as visiting professor and lecturer in Europe, America, and Africa. He is editor of "Exegetical Bibliographies" and co-editor of the book series "Die Kirchen der Welt" and the ecumenical journal Una Sancta ; he served on the editorial board of the exegetical journal "New Testament Studies". His publications of articles in biblical and exegetical journals and particularly his book on "Pauline Baptism and Pagan Mysteries" have established his scholarly reputation worldwide.

This work consists of a collection of eight papers on the syntax of English as spoken and written by educated Singaporeans. The topics dealt with include various aspects of verb-phrase structure and use, comparative constructions, and relative pronoun selection. Some of the papers are dialectological in focus and some theoretical, but all were researched through questionnaire-based interviews and/or examination of bodies of written material. Eleven Singapore researchers collaborated with the editor in this project.

Barbara & René Stoeltie both began their careers as artists and gallery owners. With René as photographer and Barbara as writer, they have been collaborating on interior design articles since 1984, contributing to such influential magazines as Vogue, The World of Interiors, AD, Elle, House and Garden, Country Living and House Beautiful. The editor : Angelika Taschen studied art history and German literature in Heidelberg, gaining her doctorate in 1986. Working for TASCHEN from 1987 to 2010, she has published numerous titles on art, architecture, photography, design, travel and lifestyle.

Since the early fifties tourism to developing countries has dramatically increased and in many a developing country it is now a sector of vital importance.
