Traduire la littérature grand public et la vulgarisation. Translating Popular Fiction and Science
Ce volume réunit 16 contributions de chercheurs internationaux autour d'un sujet encore peu étudié en traductologie, à savoir la traduction de la littérature grand public et de la vulgarisation. Par leur vocation populaire, la vulgarisation scientifique et la littérature grand public souffrent traditionnellement d'un manque de reconnaissance dans la recherche, malgré un lectorat très vaste. La vulgarisation scientifique s'inscrit aujourd'hui dans une démarche reconnue et encouragée, qui consiste à diffuser les résultats de la recherche en dehors des cercles des initiés. Elle procède de la simplification d'un discours plus spécialisé via une démarche de réécriture, voire de traduction intralinguistique. La littérature grand public partage les mêmes objectifs de large diffusion et d'accessibilité, sans pour autant procéder d'une réécriture à partir de formes plus spécialisées. Romans populaires, paralittérature, bestsellers sont autant de termes qui essayent de cerner une catégorie fuyante, vouée à évoluer au cours de l'histoire et à canoniser parfois les feuilletons d'antan. Le critère d'inclusion dans nos analyses est le succès public de ces ouvrages, ce qui permet d'élargir le spectre à des textes littéraires n'affichant pas nécessairement une vocation "? populaire ? " - vocation par ailleurs difficile à identifier - mais qui touchent un public large. L'ouvrage est organisé en 5 grandes sections : Approches théoriques, Approches historiques, Vulgarisation scientifique, Littérature grand public, Expériences de traduction. Le lecteur y trouvera des réflexions théoriques, des études de cas à l'échelle européenne et des retours d'expérience de deux traducteurs de bestsellers littéraires.

Le présent livre se concentre sur l'étude de l'Antiquité dans la culture populaire contemporaine dans une perspective large dans laquelle les genres les plus étudiés, tels que les films, les bandes dessinées et les romans historiques, et d'autres moins connus, tels que les romans fantastiques et de science-fiction, les jeux de guerre et les jeux de rôle, ont leur place. Migrant Memories provides an innovative perspective on the power of cultural memory and the influence of cinema on the Italian diaspora in Britain. Based on extensive interviews with Southern Italian migrants and their children, this study offers a fresh understanding of the migrants' journey from Italy to Britain since the early 1950s. Wolfgang Koeppen's critical and popular reputations stem largely from his literary success in the 1950s, a success which has overshadowed the author's activities in the earlier years of his career. Une vieille boîte à couture décorée d'espagnolades... De cet objet hérité de sa grand-mère, Alain Pozo fait revivre tout un pan enfoui de la mémoire familiale : des lettres, des documents administratifs, mais surtout des photographies, témoins muets de ce que fut l'exil de son grand-père, Blas Pozo Valenzuela. Maire communiste d'un village d'Andalousie sous le Frente Popular, il fut forcé de se réfugier en France en 1939 lors de la défaite républicaine. Durant 15 ans, ces photographies furent l'unique et fragile lien avec sa famille demeurée sous le joug du franquisme. Quelque 70 ans après, ces mêmes clichés mèneront Alain Pozo sur les traces de Blas, des camps de travail des vallées des Beunes, en Dordogne, durant l'occupation allemande, aux cruelles désillusions de l'après-guerre qui contraindront toute la famille à un exil définitif en France.

At the end of the 15th century, the underground ruins of Emperor Nero's famous palace were discovered in Rome : the Domus Aurea. The walls were painted with sumptuous symmetrical decorations teeming with a host of bizarre animals and mythical creatures. This was the beginning of a new visual language, which was known as 'grotesque' after the site found in 'grotto-like' ruins. Hans Vredeman de Vries and Cornelis Floris spread the grotesque style with its endless variations through their printed designs. In the 16th century, grotesque ornaments became popular not only in painting and architecture, but also in glass painting, metalsmithing and book printing. Today we still link the term 'grotesque' to the capricious, bizarre, monstrous - but also to the caricatural and laughable. Bosch and Bruegel were the great pioneers of the grotesque in printmaking with their fantastic drolleries. James Ensor, Fred Bervoets, René De Coninck, Carll Cneut and others are part of a long tradition of artists who were, and still are, inspired by the grotesque : both as a concept and as a figural style.

Lingua Legis in Translation
This book describes the historical development of the Polish and English lingua legis. The intention is to point out the major differences between the legal realities, which significantly affect the process of translation. Secondly, the following characteristic features of lingua legis, concerning the level of words and syntagmas, are touched upon : vocabulary used in lingua legis including technical and semi-technical terms, conservatism of legal texts (Latin and Latinisms ; synonymous strings, archaic adverbs etc.), borrowings, terms with non-precise meanings (the problem of indeterminacy), neologisms, euphemisms, vulgarisms, performative verbs, metaphors and religious elements, prepositional phrases, time expressions, compound nouns and the problems connected with nominalization, false cognates which cause major misunderstandings, and finally methods of providing translation equivalents. The problem of ambivalence is analysed as well. The problems connected with the Polish-English and English-Polish translation of the texts belonging to the following legal genres are examined : university diplomas and certificates, statutes, judgments, law reports, powers of attorney, petitions, contracts and deeds, testaments, birth, death and marriage certificates, and popular fiction.

Bryan Palmer, chef de l'antenne de la CIA à Tunis, pense avoir bien " cadré " l'opération Desert Spring qui doit renverser le colonel Kadhafi en Libye. Cette opération doit être l'action d'éclat qui devrait clore sa carrière, à deux ans de sa retraite. Malheureusement, le colonel libyen El Mabrouk Sahban, un des hommes clef de l'opération, est assassiné dans un grand hôtel tunisien sous les yeux de Bryan Palmer. Le 4 juin 1992, Palmer fait venir Malko Linge pour évaluer si ce meurtre est lié, ou non, avec l'opération qui doit débuter le 9 juin et se terminer la veille de l'Aïd el-Kebir, le 11 juin.
