Learning GLIM will almost certainly change the way you do statistics. The flexibility and generality of the GLIM language encourage a different approach to statistical analysis, which stresses parameter estimation and model criticism rather than hypothesis testing. The GLIM package can handle most of the models that ecologists are likely to fit to their data, including log-linear models of count data using Poisson errors, logistic regression of proportion data using binomial errors, and a wide variety of models for the analysis of survival data. It also allows an extremely general approach to more familiar procedures such as analysis of variance, multiple regression and the analysis of contingency tables.
The book provides a practical approach to learning the rationale and methods of linear modelling, starting from absolute basics and progressing in simple steps to cover the critical analysis of experimental and observational data. Minimal background in mathematics or statistical theory is assumed, and the book is aimed at all ecologists front students to experienced researchers. Statistical modelling in GLIM is introduced through an extensive series of ecological examples, where graphical display, model criticism, model simplification, plots of residuals and tests of assumptions about error specification are explained in full. The reader is encouraged to work through examples while sitting at a computer, and all of the necessary data, along with numerous exercises and fully worked answers, are provided on a disk supplied at the back of the book.
GLIM for Ecologists is not a statistical recipe book; it informs and educates on the proper use of statistics in ecology, on experimental design and on how to get the most out of your data. Learning GLIM Will certainly bc worth the effort. It's not a question of finding out how to do the same old tests in yet another new statistics package. En 2012, l'artiste américain Jared Bark, s'est mis à empiler des livres dans les champs et les bois autour de sa ferme. Il avait cette image en tête d'une colonne de livres dressée au bord d'un champ entouré d'arbres. Après avoir travaillé sur les piles en extérieur, Jared Bark a déplacé le projet dans son atelier, où il a fabriqué toutes sortes de piles de livres : des colorées, des brulées, des effacées...Plus récemment, Bark a construit des piles verticales de livres qui sont ensuite passées dans une scierie pour devenir une "cant", terme désignant une bûche qui a été fraisée sur les quatre côtés. La verticalité élancée de ces sculptures fait référence à la fois aux arbres dont on fait le papier et aux anciennes colonnes autoportantes que Bark a découvertes à Pompéi. Book of Stacks, Stacks of Books rassemble pour la première fois dans un livre une sélection complète des piles que Bark a réalisées au cours de la dernière décennie.

I started writing "Acacia thorn in my heart" after reading the book of a white South African woman about her childhood in the same region as mine but relating a completely different experience. She had maids, her father drove her to school and she played with real toys. I lived in the heart of the country, away from everything and had to walk five miles to go to school. I was born in Natal. My father rented a plot of land from a white owner to do market gardening. Although Indian families tended not to educate daughters, our parents decided that education was a priority for us. Despite financial difficulties, they were able to send us to school. We had to get up at five o'clock in order to catch the school train. In winter, as we were scantily clad, we shivered all the way to the station.

Il est une chose dont peu se souviennent, c'est que l'Allemagne fut une puissance colonisatrice. De 1883 à 1916, elle occupa ce qu'on appelait alors le Sud-Ouest africain, l'actuelle Namibie. Il en est une autre que beaucoup ignorent, c'est que cette colonie fut le théâtre du premier génocide du xxe siècle. Un génocide oublié, occulté même, car le premier rapport officiel - le fameux Blue Book - sur le massacre des Hereros et des Namas fut soustrait à la connaissance du public en 1926. Elise Fontenaille-N'Diaye, alors qu'elle enquêtait sur son aïeul, le général Mangin, a retrouvé ce rapport disparu. Dès lors, elle se devait de raconter. Si ce livre vise à ranimer le souvenir de cette sombre page de l'histoire du colonialisme, il ne se veut pas un ouvrage de spécialiste. L'auteur y donne son point de vue d'écrivain, son point de vue personnel. Quelque part entre le désert du Kalahari et la presqu'île de Shark Island, au large de Lüderitz, s'est déroulée une macabre répétition générale, préfiguration des exterminations à venir.

Après "la vedette" "le canonnier de Vodkagrad" et "la taupe de Botagogo", Malo Louarn nous a concocté un nouvel opus avec le célébrissime Dupaxon. Il est mauvais Dupaxon ! Dans le plus grand secret, les dirigeants de l'Olympic F.C. se mettent tous d'accord pour gagner beaucoup d'argent au prochain match et font appel à un bookmaker. Dupaxon devient le propriétaire d'un bouc. Patpanic fait de gros efforts pour apprendre le français. Burn Book
Le journal qui défoule et qui fait vraiment du bien ! Un journal intime sans tabou ! La colère est un sentiment souvent présenté de façon négative et culpabilisatrice alors que c'est une émotion élémentaire de notre panel émotionnel qui révèle bien plus de nous-mêmes que d'autres. Dans ce Burn Book, la personne pourra écrire sur des personnes, des évènements, des situations qui la révoltent et également lire et réagir à différents textes et activités sur la colère qui les aideront à mieux comprendre cette émotion et donc son message. Car la colère a des racines qui puise dans nos insécurités ou un passif mal réglé et réagit alors comme une alarme pour nous protéger et éloigner le danger. De façon ludique, se décharger de celle-ci en mettant des mots dessus et via des activités permettra au lecteur de prendre du recul sur cette énergie, de l'appréhender en reconnaissant ses signaux et le pourquoi cette alarme s'enclenche afin d'avancer avec plus de sérénité. Un cahier de stickers permettra au lecteur de personnaliser les pages et de s'approprier pleinement le journal. Un journal défouloir intelligent, qui met la colère au coeur des dénouements !
