Ces dernières décident de mener l'enquête mais le dénouement est quelque peu perturbant.

Then follow the critical edition of books VI-X, and the indices for the whole text. The complete edition gives access to the longest and most important work from Aristotle's zoology, De historia animalium, in the Latin translation by William of Moerbeke. This version was part of the standard university curriculum in the late-medieval West. The bilingual indices give access to the richness of the translator's vocabulary and provide an indispensable tool for the study of his translation method. Except for De partibus animalium, all of Moerbeke's translations from the Aristotelian zoological corpus are now available in critical editions.

A Study of English Nautical Loanwords in the Russian Language of the Eighteenth Century
This study is intended to give as full a survey as possible of 18th century Russian nautical and shipbuilding terms which were borrowed from English. The origins of the words are discussed and the date of each word's first attestation in Russian is given. Phonetic features and peculiarities of the loanwords are described, with special reference to possible English dialectal influence. A statistical analysis is given of the semantic aspect of the borrowings, which throws some light on the nature and extent of British influence on the nascent Russian shipbuilding industry.

Hilma af Klint. The Five Notebook 1
In 1896, Hilma af Klint and four other like-minded women artists left the Edelweiss Society and founded the "Friday Group", also known as "The Five". They met every Friday for spiritual meetings, including prayers, studies of the New Testament, meditation and séances. The medium exercised automatic writing and mediumistic drawing. Eventually they established contact with spiritual beings whom they called "The High Ones". In 1896, the five women began taking meticulous notes of the mediumistic messages conveyed by the spirits. In time, Hilma af Klint felt she had been selected for more important messages. After ten years of esoteric training with "The Five", aged 43, Hilma af Klint accepted a major assignment, the execution of The Paintings for the Temple. This commission, which engaged the artist from 1906 to 1915, changed the course of her life. In 1908, Rudolf Steiner, leader of the German Theosophical Society, held several lectures in Stockholm. He also visited af Klint's studio and saw some of the early Paintings for the Temple. In 1913, Steiner founded the Anthroposophical Society, which af Klint joined in 1920 and remained a member for the rest of her life.

One Artist on Five Continents
Elisabet Delbrück (1876-1967) was one of a number of Germans who came to New Zealand in the late 1930s. Unlike most, she had not intended to emigrate but was touring the country when World War II broke out. She was at first forbidden to leave and then chose to remain in Wellington. Her thirty years in Mahina Bay on Wellington harbour had a profound effect on all who knew her. This study aims to discover why she was so remarkable. It explores her early life, her marriage into a prominent German family and her qualification as an artist. She turned this into a profession, teaching and exhibiting on five continents in the 1920s and 1930s. She always travelled alone, observing the customs and beliefs of the people she met. In Australia and New Zealand in 1938 and 1939 she was wrongly suspected of spreading Nazi propaganda. Her story is also the story of a heroic group of Wellingtonians who helped her in the 1940s and valued her friendship till her death.

After a long moment of searching, in a corner, Louise discovers a dusty trunk. The two cousins open it and see a sword with an inscription. A discovery that will lead them to the military school at Saint Cyr de Coëtquidan, in the footsteps of their grandfather.

Etre à la hauteur pour recevoir "L'auteure", voilà la préoccupation première de l'héroïne du texte qui ouvre ce recueil. C'est son compagnon qui l'a conviée, une écrivaine célébrissime qu'il ne faudra surtout pas décevoir. Une pointe de jalousie fait qu'elle y met un peu de mauvaise volonté, pourtant il faudrait que tout soit parfait. Mais voilà, rien ne se passe comme elle l'avait prévu. Ismaël devient prématurément dépendant à cause d'une méthode de pêche dangereuse, des petits enfants initiés par leur grand-mère aux bienfaits de la soupe aux orties, d'anciens amis à nouveau rassemblés par la morts de l'un d'entre-eux, une virgule qui n'en fait qu'à sa tête, une famille déchirée, un cancre qui ne l'est pas tant que cela et enfin la nostalgie qui resurgit à cause d'une photo découverte dans un magazine.

Hate de Peter Bagge consiste en une exploration drolatique de la génération grunge des années 1990. Hate raconte la vie d'un adulescent appelé Buddy Bradley, l'alter ego autofictionnel de Peter Bagge. Buddy est un gros feignant dont le sentiment dominant se résume au titre du comics : Hate. Haine de la société, des parents, du travail, de toute forme d'autorité arbitraire. Mais une haine gentille, sinon pathétique, ressort principal de l'humour ravageur qui est le véritable moteur de la saga. Loser, starlette d'un jour, musicien raté ou banlieusard minable, tous ceux qui gravitent autour de Buddy le lui rendent bien. Pourtant, de retour dans son New Jersey natal, Buddy finira par se ranger un peu. L'histoire d'une génération ?? Peter Bagge est un rejeton de la génération X. A partir de 1981, il publie dans Weirdo, créé par Robert Crumb. Plus tard, il signe des scénarios pour Marvel ou DC, tout en poursuivant sa carrière alternative. Il publie notamment des chroniques libertariennes Tous des idiots sauf moi (éd. Delcourt), ainsi que la biographie de la militante noire américaine Margaret Sanger, femme rebelle (éd. Nada).

I started writing "Acacia thorn in my heart" after reading the book of a white South African woman about her childhood in the same region as mine but relating a completely different experience. She had maids, her father drove her to school and she played with real toys. I lived in the heart of the country, away from everything and had to walk five miles to go to school. I was born in Natal. My father rented a plot of land from a white owner to do market gardening. Although Indian families tended not to educate daughters, our parents decided that education was a priority for us. Despite financial difficulties, they were able to send us to school. We had to get up at five o'clock in order to catch the school train. In winter, as we were scantily clad, we shivered all the way to the station.

Ancient Greek by Its Translators
When not familiar with the language itself, most readers over the centuries have had access to the ancient Greek texts only or mostly through (Latin or vernacular) translations. Such an approach is not only indirect and mediated, but also distorted and even impoverishing : meaning then prevails over the linguistic form and substance of the texts themselves. What do later or modern readers read when they read translated texts written in an ancient so-called dead language ? They read a given meaning - sometimes unfaithful, often inaccurate - dictated by a genuine understanding, the blind continuation of tradition, or an untold hidden intention. The complex range of significances conveyed by meaning simultaneously reflects the time and space (called synchrony) of when and where a text has been translated, the historical learning and linguistic skills of the translators, as well as their ideas and style. As a contribution to the perennial debate about translation (mere literary transliteration vs. creative transposition), this volume aims at analyzing some striking cases of various (literary or not) texts translated from ancient Greek showing how much for the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries aesthetics and ideology matter as much as - and often even more than - rigorous philology.

Etel Adnan a alors interviewé ces deux personnages ; les entretiens étaient restés inédits. Les voici enfin traduits, avec une double préface d'Etel Adnan. Le tout traduit de l'anglais par Patrice Cotensin.

The aim of this volume is to give an analytic description of how Elizabethan Spectators in documentary evidence responded to the theatre performances they watched or knew to be about. It also considers why they responded in that way. Opposing dual consciousness to the reification of the character (its 'ideal presence'), the author concludes that Elizabethan spectators were predominantly interested in the characters' 'ideal presence'. Why they were, is explained by relating their statements to the Renaissance theory of visual perception, (demonic) transformation, and ideas on acting.

English and Korean have various ways of expressing grammatical prominence. While focusing in English has been studied over the past twenty years by a number of generative and functional grammarians, there is as yet no comprehensive treatment of focus phenomena in Korean. This monograph treats five focusing constructions of English and looks at their grammatical and lexical equivalents in Korean. English and Korean are different typologically. Since this difference is important, if one wishes to make sense of the diverging focusing strategies in these two languages, it is necessary to give a typological outline of English and Korean. The follwing two typological approaches figure prominently in this monograph : the basic word order typology developed by Greenberg, and the language typology proposed by Li and Thompson.
